KARACHI: Pakistan’s squash player Nasir Iqbal continued his exceptional run by claiming victory at the Tasmanian Open Squash Championship held in Australia on Sunday. In a thrilling final match, Nasir Iqbal triumphed over Switzerland’s David Barnett with a score of 3-1.
The match saw Nasir Iqbal dominate from the outset, securing the first two games with scores of 11-8 and 12-10, respectively. Despite a strong comeback from Barnett in the third game, where he won 11-6, Iqbal maintained his composure and sealed the victory with a decisive 11-5 win in the fourth game.
This triumph marks Iqbal’s third title in Australia this year, adding to his earlier successes at the Bendigo International and Shepparton Open tournaments. His consistent performance has also seen him reach the semi-finals of the Victoria Open, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the international squash arena.
Reflecting on his journey to the final, Iqbal displayed exceptional form throughout the championship, notably overpowering France’s Melvil Ciani-Menko in the semi-finals with a commanding 3-0 victory and impressive scores of 11-4, 11-5, and 11-5.
These achievements come after his outstanding performance earlier this year at the CNS Squash Championship in Karachi, where Iqbal further demonstrated his prowess and commitment to the sport.
