KARACHI: Police on Tuesday arrested dozens of students after they allegedly beat up and tortured a professor of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) after he barred them from appearing in a paper over low attendance.
FUUAST, As the paper began, Professor Sikandar Shinwari barred a student from appearing in the exam. The students protested over the move and attacked the professor, dragged him out of his office and beat him up and tortured him before the administration and other students intervened, and later the police were called in.
Sources said that the professor had stopped Ramsha Batool, over her low attendance.
Later police reached the university and arrested 19 students including Ramsha Batool.
The university administration got an FIR registered against Ramsha Batool and 19 other students stating that professor Sikandar was sitting in his office when the university student, Ramsha Batool, along with other students made her way into the office.
According to the FIR, the students asked the professor to allow the girl to sit in the examination, but the teacher rebuffed their request because she had zero attendance during the whole semester. The professor has requested the police to take serious action against the girl and other students who beat him up
