DONETSK: Russian forces have taken the control of Bohdanivka settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, said Russia’s defense ministry in a statement on Sunday.

Control of Bohdanivka, situated near the west of the Russian-held city of Bakhmut, has been in doubt for some time.

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, in its April 21 evening report, stated that Bohdanivka is among villages where Ukrainian forces repelled 13 enemy attacks. However, the statement provided no further details.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry last week denied that Russia had taken control of Bohdanivka while acknowledging it had lost some positions in the village in the eastern Donetsk region.

Ukrainian unofficial sources said that Bohdanivka had gone into the Russian hands, based on video footage of the village.

Ukraine has focused on defending Chasiv Yzar city, terming it an important post in keeping the Russians from advancing to the cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, in the Donetsk region.

A commander on the frontline in the area, Maksym Zhorin, told national media that all positions around Chasiv Yar were under complete Ukrainian control.

Russian troops captured Bakhmut in May 2023 after months of fierce battle.
