ISLAMABAD: Unofficial provisional results of the by-elections in five National Assembly and 16 provincial assemblies constituencies have begun trickling in, indicating the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leading in Punjab while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured victory in NA-196 Qambar Shahdadkot. Following the conclusion of polling on Sunday, the vote count is currently underway, with results trickling in from polling stations across the country.
Polling was conducted from 8 am to 5 pm without any breaks in five National Assembly seats, 12 Punjab Assembly seats, two Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats, and two Balochistan Assembly seats, amidst stringent security measures.
The by-elections were originally scheduled for 23 constituencies, but the results of two seats, one national and one provincial, had already been announced. PPP’s Aseefa Bhutto Zardari secured the NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad seat unopposed, while Zubair Ahmad Junejo won the PS-80 Dadu seat.
Unverified and unconfirmed reports suggest that the PML-N is leading in Punjab, with its candidates attaining leads over competitors, primarily from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), which is backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
