ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the current and latest developments in the Middle East and called on all sides to exercise utmost restraint and move towards de-escalation, a foreign office statement said on Sunday.

In a statement Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that Islamabad had pointed on second of this month, to the risks of strike on an Iranian consular office in Syria as a main escalation in an already volatile region. Radio Pakistan reported that the statement added that today’s developments show the consequences of the breakdown of diplomacy.

The Foreign Office stated that for months, Islamabad has underlined the necessity of global efforts to stop the expansion of hostilities in the region and for a truce in the Gaza Strip. It added that these also underline the grave implications and consequences in cases where the UNSC is unable to fulfill its responsibilities and duties of maintaining world security and peace.

The statement maintained that it is now critically urgent to stabilize the current situation and restore peace in the region.

Earlier, Iran has fired dozens of drones to attack specific targets in Israel. Iran said it has released the drones and missiles and terming the move as part of the punishment for “Israeli crimes” and in reply of attacking the Iranian consulate in Syria.
