LAHORE: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged his cabinet members during a Saturday meeting to swiftly initiate work towards achieving the goals outlined in a five-year roadmap shared with relevant ministries.
Addressing the cabinet, the Prime Minister mentioned that he had provided broad guidelines for the five-year plan to the concerned ministries, including various targets to be achieved promptly.
He emphasized the need for ministries to develop mechanisms, hire personnel, and devise strategies to meet these targets under the set parameters, stressing that responsibility with accountability would be pivotal for progress.
To facilitate efficient progress and overcome bureaucratic hurdles, the Prime Minister highlighted the availability of forums like the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and emphasized adherence to rules for hiring global consultants.
He encouraged utilizing the country’s talented human resources, adopting innovative approaches, reducing bureaucratic paperwork, and initiating work immediately to transform the economic landscape within the five-year term.
The Prime Minister outlined key areas such as reducing foreign debts, boosting GDP, creating jobs, enhancing agriculture and IT sectors, reforming the energy sector, and combating smuggling to achieve self-sufficiency and economic stability.
He mentioned ongoing efforts like the FBR digitalization plan and expedited disposal of cases in appellate courts to unlock stuck funds, along with plans to reduce official expenditures and achieve ambitious IT export targets.
Acknowledging achievements under the interim government, particularly in the power sector, the Prime Minister assured support for national defense efforts and emphasized solidarity with China following a recent tragic incident in Bisham, promising a swift investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
