ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari presented the presidential awards to scores of personalities on Saturday who served and contributed in their respective fields. To acknowledge their contributions the President awarded the highest civilian awards at the Presidency on the eve of Pakistan Day.
Among others, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar was honoured with Hilal-i-Imtiaz. Dr Amjad Saqib was also awarded the same honour for his contribution to the social sector through his non-profit organisation, Akhuwat.
Former Punjab chief secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman got the same award for his contributions whereas Nasir Mehmood and Muhammad Ahmad Shah received Hilal-i-Imtiaz awards for public service and Arts, respectively.
Nishan-i-Imtiaz Award was announced for the late Hafeez Qureshi for his significant contribution to nuclear science, while veteran politician and former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah received Nishan-i-Imtiaz for their contributions.
Former governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and ex-caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar received the Nishan-i-Imtiaz award for her contribution to economic sector.
