Chinese President Xi Jinping Congratulates Asif Ali Zardari on His Election as President of Pakistan

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to Asif Ali Zardari on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

President Xi emphasized the longstanding friendship and partnership between China and Pakistan, describing it as a choice of history and a precious treasure of the two peoples.

President Xi highlighted the close high-level exchanges between China and Pakistan in recent years, as well as their mutual support on issues of core interests and major concerns.

He also acknowledged the fruitful outcomes in the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), underscoring the high level of development in bilateral relations.

In the context of rapidly changing global dynamics, President Xi emphasized the increasing strategic significance of China-Pakistan relations. He expressed his commitment to advancing the traditional friendship between the two countries, enhancing practical cooperation across various sectors, and promoting the further development of the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan.

Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, secured victory in the presidential election with 411 votes, surpassing the opposition-backed candidate who received 181 votes. This marks Zardari’s second term as Pakistan’s president, following his earlier tenure from 2008 to 2013.

President Xi affirmed his readiness to collaborate with President Zardari to strengthen bilateral ties, foster a closer community with a shared future between China and Pakistan, and bring greater benefits to the people of both nations.
