LONDON: Foreign minister of Belgium on Monday said that the European Union’s Council of Foreign Ministers is making every possible effort in its power to reach an immediate ceasefire and secure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.

Hadja Lahbib also announced her country’s willingness to host an international peace conference in April to discuss Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.

She added that she has been making contacts with global leaders on daily basis to ensure a 40-day ceasefire so that Palestinians can receive humanitarian assistance.

Israel has besieged the strip, attacked its towns and pounded it from the air since its action started on October 7. More than 30,000 people have been killed, with thousands more missing.

The majority of the population in the Gaza Strip has become homeless, and the United Nations warns hundreds of thousands of its people are facing famine.

Lahbib said that Belgium has sent direct humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in December, adding that the aid will not be stopped to the besieged Gaza strip.
