BEIRUT: Foreign minister of Austria on Thursday called upon Israel and Hezbollah against increasing the conflict along the explosive Israel-Lebanon border and appealed for a pause in the fighting in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan in March.
The Middle East has seen enough cruelty and devastation, said Alexander Schallenberg, while speaking to media after holding a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart in Beirut.
Schallenberg said he came to Lebanon after paying a visit to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli airstrikes on the villages of Lebanon along the border in south killed two people and injured 14 others on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, an Israeli drone strike targeted a truck near the western Syrian town of Qusair near to the Lebanese border on Thursday, killing a member of Hezbollah, said a Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
American and European officials have tried to ease the tensions during visits to Beirut, to avoid a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah, which has said it would not discuss any deals before the war in Gaza comes to an end.
