LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued the written verdict on a plea seeking to stop Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march, saying it was the duty of the police to provide security to the people.
“Under the Police Order, it is the duty of police to respect the people’s constitutional desires and provide them with security of life and property. It is also required to keep the roads open”, the verdict said.
The ruling added that police also need to manage the traffic on roads as it was included in its duties’ list.
It is to be noted that Naeem Meer, a traders’ leader, had requested the Lahore High Court to stop the PTI long march against the federal government towards Islamabad. The petitioner had said in his plea that the long march was affecting the business activities in the city.
