ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday sentenced the founder of PTI and former prime minister and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, to seven years each in the Iddat case, local media reported on Saturday.
Senior civil judge Qudratullah has announced the decision on the complaint of Bushra’s former husband, Khawar Fareed Maneka, in a makeshift court at the Adiala district jail.
The decision comes in the same week the ex-PM was sentenced to 10 years in the cipher case and 14 years in the Toshakhana reference.
The couple have also been fined PKR 500,000 each. Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.
The court had reserved its decision after the arguments were completed on Friday.
The judge announced the court’s verdict in the case pertaining to the plea filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, against what he refers to as an un-Islamic and illegal nikah with Imran Khan.
Four witnesses in the case gave the statements, which were later cross-examined during the proceedings of the case, while Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi also recorded their statements under section 342.
Bushra Bibi, who was placed under house arrest at her residence in Banigala following its status declared as a sub-jail, was presented before the court during today’s proceedings at Adiala jail. Imran Khan, who remains detained at the facility, and the couple’s lawyers were also present at the time of the verdict announcement.
