ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani during a conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian has underscored the need for closer cooperation on security issues, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Friday.
According to the statement Foreign Minister Jilani expressed Pakistan’s readiness to work with Iran on all issues based on spirit of shared trust and cooperation.

The Foreign Minister stressed that respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty must underpin this cooperation. He emphasized the need for closer cooperation on security issues.
The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to de-escalate the situation. The return of Ambassadors of the two countries to their respective Capitals was also discussed.
In a “highly complex” and “specifically targeted” precision military attacks, Pakistan on Thursday morning hit the terrorists’ hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran, killing a number of them.
Pakistan’s action came a day following the Iranian side violated Pakistan’s airspace which was called a “blatant breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty” and the violation of the international law.
Pakistan carried out effective strikes against hideouts inside Iran used by terrorists responsible for recent attacks in Pakistan in early hours of 18 January 2024, military’s media wing said on Thursday.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the precision strikes were carried out using killer drones, rockets, loitering munitions and stand-off weapons. The statement added that maximum care was taken to avoid collateral damage.
Earlier Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani had cut short their foreign trips of Switzerland and Uganda, besides triggering reactions from the international community.
Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Rasoul Mousavi has said Iran adheres to the policy of good neighborliness and brotherhood between the two countries and the two governments of Iran and Pakistan.
