TEHRAN: Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that Israel’s war on Gaza, should be a bigger concern than stopping of Zionist ships in the Red Sea, Iranian state media reported on Sunday.
The Iranian foreign minister during a phone call by the British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has said that Israel is massacring women and children in Gaza.
Iranian state media quoted Amirabdollahian as saying that the Israeli regime cannot be allowed to commit massacres of women and children and genocide in Gaza and set the region on fire.
He noted that the stopping of a Zionist ship in the Red Sea is seen as endangering the security of this economic water channel.
British Foreign Secretary Cameron during the conversation made it clear that Iran has shared responsibility of preventing Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
In a post on social media site X, he said that Iran shares responsibility for preventing these attacks, given their long-standing support to the Houthis. He added that such attacks threaten innocent lives and the global economy.
The U.S. is heading a new naval task force to protect commercial shipping and has blamed Iran for supplying weapons, financing, targeting and other assistance to the Houthis. However, Iran strongly denies these accusations.
The Houthis since November 19 have attacked dozen ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They say that the attacks were in response to Israeli bombardment on Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the U.S. on Thursday imposed sanctions on an individual and three currency exchange companies for their alleged involvement in facilitating the flow of Iranian financial assistance to the Yemeni Houthis.
