KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday said he was confident that the US a strong ally would not betray his nation by withholding crucial wartime assistance as it fights a war with Russia.

Financial assistance for Ukraine has been held up by Republicans in the US Congress, and the White House has warned that it will be consumed by the end of the year if not renewed.

Zelensky during a televised press briefing in Kyiv said that Ukraine is working very hard on this. He added that he is certain the United States of America will not betray Kyiv.

He went on to say that financial aid is key to Ukraine’s defense from Moscow’s full-scale war, which is nearing its two-year mark and showing no signs of ending.

Ukraine waiting for aid

The President said that American partners should know that they are waiting for this aid. He added they know the details of what it’s needed for, how it will influence the situation.

Zelensky said he also expected the European Union to approve a 50 billion euro aid package soon. EU leaders approved the launch of membership talks but Hungary blocked the aid package.
