ATLANTA: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi has hailed the role of the regional body in promoting integrity and fighting corruption, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
According to the SPA, he expressed the remarks while addressing an event titled “The Roles and Initiatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries in Combating Corruption” held on the sidelines of the 10th session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP10) in Atlanta.
During his opening speech, Albudaiwi highlighted the pioneering role of the GCC countries in promoting integrity and combating corruption at all levels.

He also referred to the decisions of the Supreme Council focused on enhancing integrity and fighting corruption. He said the final statement issued on January 5, 2021, by the Supreme Council at its 41st session, stressed the promotion of accountability, governance, integrity transparency and anti-corruption measures through joint Gulf cooperation in all GCC offices, institutions and specialized organizations.

Albudaiwi stressed that the GCC countries pay utmost importance to fight corruption because of its s negative impact on the economic, social and political components.
He said that the GCC countries have made significant progress in protecting their institutions and societies from corruption.
