SANAA: Houthis in Yemen have claimed to attack two Israeli ships in Bab Al Mandeb, the strait between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, western media reported on Sunday.

According to reports the strait is a key trade route for international shipping and energy supplies.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon said that there are reports of attacks on the USS Carney and commercial ships in the Red Sea.

As per reports an American warship and several commercial vessels came under attack on Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said.

It said that such attacks could trigger a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Middle East linked to the war between Israel and Hamas.

Earlier, the Houthis said they targeted the two Israeli ships named Unity Explorer and Number Nine ships. One ship was hit by a missile, while the other one was targeted by drone.

The Houthis have already declared a war against Israeli shipping in the Red Sea.

The group has said that its forces will continue to stop Israeli ships from entering into the Red and Arab Seas until the Israeli brutality against Palestinians Gaza Strip stopped.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari has denied that Houthis target Israeli ships in the Red Sea.

The Pentagon earlier said, the USS Carney had shot down a drone.

Few days ago, G7 foreign ministers had called upon Houthis to stop threatening the international shipping and release a vessel they seized earlier this month.
