KYIV: Russia attacked Ukraine with more than a dozen drones and a cruise missile, the Ukrainian air force said on Wednesday, claiming to have downed all the drones.
This came as officials in the southern region of Odesa said they had earlier shot down a rare attack and reconnaissance drone.
Increasing Russian Attacks
Ukraine has been bracing for a surge in Russian attacks on critical infrastructure — especially energy facilities — as sub-zero temperatures set in, according to AFP news agency.
The air force said the attack had been carried out from southeast Russia and that a combination of air defense units in many central regions had “destroyed all fourteen enemy drones.”
It said in a statement that the X-22 cruise missile failed to reach its target and fell in the Zaporizhzhia region in an open area. The blast wave damaged private homes; however, there were no casualties.
