Nawaz Khokar Submits Resignation to Senate Chairman
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar submitted his resignation to Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Thursday.
Khokhar submitted his resignation days after he twitted that one of his party members met him and conveyed the party leadership’s message asking him to resign.
The PPP senator had taken a stance after PTI Senator Azam Swati said that his wife had been sent an objectionable video of their bed room.
Khokhar said that for time being he was not intending to join any political party.
Taking to the micro-blogging website, Twitter Khokhar said that ““Allhamdulillah, I have formally submitted my resignation today. I’m thankful for the positive response & support across party lines which was far beyond my imagination.”
“For those who are speculating about my political future, let me state clearly that I’m not joining any political party. I will try hard to maintain my independence,” Khokhar added.
meanwhile, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani accepted the resignation of Khokhar as a senator and declared his seat vacant. In March 2018, Khokhar won the Senate seat and become a senator on a ticket of the PPP.
The outspoken politician, who also served as a spokesperson for PPP’s Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, announced his resignation from the Senate on Tuesday, stating that he had been informed that the PPP leadership was not happy with him due to his “positions” amid recent political developments.
Khokhar also remained critical of policies of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif-led coalition government.
Khokhar said that “I will continue to express my opinions on the matter of public interests”.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also took to Twitter and said that “A principled resignation tendered”. Fawad wished Khokhar good luck in his future political career and endeavours.
