PESHAWAR: In two districts, Peshawar and Khyber, 26,411 children’s parents declined to vaccinate their children for various reasons during the seven-day anti-polio vaccine campaign.
The Emergency Operation Centre revealed that the target population for immunization against polio in districts Peshawar and Khyber was 1,130,820 children under five. Among these, there were 901,985 children in Peshawar and 228,835 children in Khyber.

Within Peshawar, 14,856 children were absent at home during the polio vaccination efforts despite multiple visits by the polio teams. Additionally, parents of 8,471 children declined to have their children immunized.
In Khyber, 2,823 children were missed during the campaign due to parental non-cooperation, and 261 parents refused to allow their children to receive polio drops.
The provincial Health department has submitted a report on the cases of refusal to the concerned department for further action and consideration. —APP
