GAZA: The International Committee of the Red Cross has said that a humanitarian convoy carrying medical supplies came under fire in Gaza City, Arab media reported on Tuesday.
According to the Arab News, the convoy of 5 trucks and two Red Cross vehicles was transporting supplies to hospitals, including to Al-Quds hospital, when it was attacked, in a statement ICRC said. According to the Red Cross two trucks were also damaged in the attack. It further added that a driver also received minor injuries after the attack.
The chief of ICRC sub-delegation in Gaza William Schomburg said “These are not the circumstances under which humanitarian volunteers can work. William Schomburg stated, “We are here to bring immediate help to civilian population in need. Ensuring that vital help can reach hospitals is a legal obligation under global humanitarian law.”

After the attack the convoy changed its route and reached Al-Shifa hospital where it provided the medical supplies, the ICRC maintained.
Earlier, UN aid head Martin Griffiths also acknowledged “some progress” in negotiations concerning fuel deliveries to the besieged Gaza Strip. However, the situation on the ground remains dire, with World Health Organization (WHO) highlighting the dire consequences of the fuel shortage. “More and more facilities are closing down, and life-saving resources are diminishing,” Lindmeier emphasized. He stressed the urgent need for immediate intervention.

Meanwhile, the war has also taken a toll on healthcare workers in Gaza, with over 16 medical professionals losing their lives while on duty, according to the World Health Organization. Medical aid is also facing severe restrictions, leading doctors to perform surgeries, including amputations, without anesthesia due to the lack of supplies.
