Hezbollah Says It Downs Israeli Drone in Lebanon

BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah has said it shot down an Israeli drone in southern Lebanon with a surface-to-air missile, Western media reported on Sunday. The first time Hezbollah announced such an incident, as clashes on the Lebanese border further escalate.

According to Hezbollah Israeli drown was hit near Khiam, 5 km from the border with Israel, and was seen falling in Israeli side. Sources in Lebanon stated it was the first time Hezbollah group had announced downing an Israeli drone.

Earlier, on Saturday, Arab media reported Israeli drones fired 3 missiles at a site in Jabal Safi in Lebanon’s Iqlim Al-Tuffah area, around 20 km from the border. It was a second violation of Lebanese airspace by Israeli military in the last few weeks amid increasing tensions with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

The new exchange of fire came following the Israeli military said that it is “targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon”.  According to Arab News, Israeli reconnaissance airplane flew over the southern border region at medium height.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli army fired over 20 incendiary bombs on the outskirts of Labbouneh in Naqoura. Similarly, Israeli phosphorus bombs also set fire to areas near Alma Al-Shaab.
