Japan: People Call for Peace in Palestine

TOKYO: Several hundred Japan’s citizens and foreign residents have gathered in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, calling for peace in Palestine as Israel prepares to attack Gaza in its war against Palestinians, local media reported on Sunday.

The protestors expressed concern for the civilian population of Gaza following Israel warned people of Palestine to move from Gaza. Protesters raised their voices to condemn Israel’s move to cut water, food and electricity in the Palestinian territory.

Shigenobu Mei, an activist for Palestinian rights said that more than 300 Palestinians were killed on Saturday, bringing the total to more than 2,500.

One female from “the West,” said, “I see Israel’s flags next to Ukraine’s flags and my heart breaks when I see that. The dual standards that are hitting the eyes and masses don’t see that, Westerners don’t see that. So, I ask all Westerners to open their eyes and to be more impartial to what is happening.”

A Palestinian in Japan said that she had a fellow in Gaza, but whom she can no longer in touch because of electricity cuts.

She expressed regret that the situation so severely affected the civilian population in Gaza. She urged the media especially Japanese media for better coverage of the issue and added that the Palestinian problem is an international problem.
