MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the United States’ Middle East policy on Tuesday, stating that the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict showcased the “failure” of Washington’s approach in the region.
Putin made these remarks during a meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Moscow. “I think many people would agree with me that it is a clear example of the failure of US politics in the Middle East,” Putin stated, emphasizing the need to implement the decisions of the UN Security Council regarding the creation of an “independent sovereign Palestinian state.”
According to Putin, the conflict highlighted the US’s attempt to monopolize the resolution process without actively seeking compromises acceptable to both parties involved. He criticized the lack of consideration for the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people, suggesting that the West had overlooked crucial aspects of the conflict.

Palestinian State Solution to Middle East Conflict
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov echoed Putin’s sentiments, emphasizing that the creation of a Palestinian state was the “most reliable” solution for peace in Israel.
The Kremlin disclosed earlier on Tuesday that preparations were underway for a visit by Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas to Moscow. Although the visit was planned before the latest escalation, the timing adds significance to the diplomatic efforts amidst the escalating conflict.
Russia’s concern escalated after the United States moved warships closer to its ally Israel, leading Moscow to fear potential involvement by a foreign player in the conflict. The situation remains delicate, with international leaders urging for an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic solutions to bring an end to the violence in the region.
