WASHINGTON: The US army said on Wednesday that Washington has sent Kyiv more than 1 million rounds of Iranian ammunition that had been held last year.

American naval troops for years have been seizing arms, usually transported by fishing containers, Reuters reported. U.S. Central Command disclosed around 1.1 million 7.62 mm rounds were sent to Kyiv.

According to Reuters, the weapons were seized by U.S. naval forces in Dec. 2022 and being transferred from Iran.

“The United States is committed to working with their partners to counter the flow of Iranian deadly aid in the region by all legal means including U.N. and U.S sanctions and via interdictions,” the Central Command said.

The statement comes as Congress included no new aid for Kyiv in the stopgap U.S. spending bill it approved on Saturday to keep the government open, highlighting the growing reluctance of some Republican lawmakers to provide funds for Ukraine.
