Pakistan, Azerbaijan Agree for Climate Resilient, Sustainable Urban Planning

BAKU: Pakistan and Azerbaijan joined hands for a Climate Resilient and Sustainable Urban Planning programme keeping in view the real challenges faced by the region.

Both sides reached at a consensus during a meeting between Pakistan’s Caretaker Planning Minister for Development and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed and Chairman State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev on Sunday.

The Planning Minister Sami Saeed is on an official visit to the Second Azerbaijan National Urban Forum & Global Observance of World Habitat Day 2023, titled “Resilient cities as a driving force of economic development and fighting inequalities,” held by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in Zangilan as part of the Azerbaijan Urban Week.

During a meeting on the margins of the event, the planning minister lauded the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts undertaken by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture in conflict-hit areas of Azerbaijan.

Sami Saeed said that it was mutually acknowledged that Urban Planning is a real challenge and forums such as Azerbaijan National Urban are much needed to seek solutions while learning from global experiences and for chalking out a collective way forward.

Pakistan-Azerbaijan Relations

Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan by exploring joint strategies for the socio-economic development of the people of both nations.

The Planning Minister commended the government of Azerbaijan for conducting a successful Second National Urban Forum which plays an important role in the reconstruction of destroyed cities.

He underscored the recently launched Resilient, Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework for Pakistan Floods 2022 which is playing an important role in making a resilient infrastructure.
