OTTAWA, Canada: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on Thursday, expressed confidence that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken would address the murder of a Sikh separatist leader with his Indian counterpart during their scheduled meeting later in the day.
Ten days after declaring that Indian government agents were suspected of being involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the province of British Columbia in June, Trudeau commented to media in Quebec.
Antony Blinken is set to meet with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the same day. When asked directly whether Blinken would raise the issue, Trudeau responded, “The Americans will certainly discuss this matter with the Indian government.”
It’s worth noting that India has dismissed Canada’s allegations as baseless. Just a few days prior, Jaishankar had stated that New Delhi was open to examining any “specific” or “relevant” information provided by Canada regarding the killing.
