KYIV, Ukraine: The Ukrainian military claimed on Thursday that Russia had launched a “massive” drone attack overnight, resulting in the destruction of more than 30 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles.

Nataliya Gumenyuk, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian southern military command, disclosed that the UAVs were intercepted both along the Black Sea coastal regions and further inland.

Nataliya Gumenyuk, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian southern military command, disclosed that the UAVs were intercepted both along the Black Sea coastal regions and further inland.

Gumenyuk conveyed on the Telegram messaging platform that Russia persists in applying pressure and exploring new tactics, specifically employing mass attacks. She reported, “Tonight, several groups of strike UAVs were launched… air defense operations were conducted across almost the entire southern direction, encompassing Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. Additionally, further north, the adversary directed its assaults towards central Ukraine.”

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, she added, “The consequences of the attack are currently being assessed, as it was indeed of significant scale. However, the efficacy of the air defense measures was notable, resulting in the destruction of over 30 UAVs.”

Since July, when Moscow withdrew from a UN-brokered agreement facilitating safe grain shipments through the Black Sea, Russia has escalated its attacks on Ukraine’s grain-exporting infrastructure, particularly targeting the southern Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
