PYONGYANG: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s recent visit to Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East signifies the deepening friendship and cooperation between North Korea and Russia, as reported by the state-run Korean news agency.
Upon his arrival, Kim received a warm welcome from Vladivostok, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two nations. Kim, accompanied by senior military officials, including Ri Pyong Chol, vice chairman of the ruling Workers’ Party’s Central Military Commission, was greeted by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.
During the visit, Kim and Shoigu travelled to Knevichi airfield, located approximately 50 kilometers from Vladivostok, where Kim inspected various strategic bombers and multirole fighters from the Russian Air Force, emphasizing the importance of military cooperation.
Subsequently, Kim visited the Russian Pacific Fleet’s frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” in Vladivostok. During this tour, he gained insights into the destroyer’s essential equipment and combat capabilities, showcasing the shared interests between North Korea and Russia in the realm of national security and defence.
Following the inspection, Kim and Shoigu engaged in discussions that touched upon regional matters and constructive dialogues about enhancing strategic and tactical cooperation. The visit underscored the growing partnership between North Korea and Russia and their commitment to mutual exchanges and collaboration in various fields.
