Russia, Myanmar ink agreement on delivery of six Su-30

Russia and Myanmar have signed a deal in September 2022 for the delivery of six Su-30SME fighter jets.

The Sukhoi Su-30SME multi-role fighter jet is developed for enemy’s aerial targets engagement, combat employment and pilot training.

Than told the Russian TASS state news agency separately that a number of bilateral contracts will be signed at the East Economic Forum, including on enhanced tourism between the two countries.

The United States has warned that Russia’s support for Myanmar’s military rulers is not acceptable and destabilizing, with its supply of arms helping to enhance a conflict that has already become a catastrophe for the country.

Since 2021, Russia’s defense minister and top diplomat have visited Myanmar, while the country’s military chief Min Aung Hlaing has visited Russia several times with receiving an honorary doctorate.
