KARACHI: The government of Sindh has decided to remove Salman Raza from the office of director general (DG) of the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (DIRPIS).

The decision was made by Chief Secretary Dr Mohammed Sohail Rajput who dismissed him on the orders of the Sindh Education Minister. The private schools organisations were holding press conference against him since days.

Salman Raza, a zoology professor, criticised the private school alliances recently for charging additional fees from parents of students and selling textbooks, uniforms and stationery goods to students. He was dismissed due to protests from these private school organisations. His dismissal has created displeasure among parents on social media.

Parents think that the “mafia” had succeeded and that the government’s swift action had muted the parents’ legitimate concerns. Parents ask the government why such quick action is not taken when they demand parents pay extra fees.

They wondered why the government did not accept any action when these private schools made their teachers work tirelessly but did not pay them accordingly. Parents have requested the provincial government to take notice of their concerns.
