KARACHI: A contingent of Pakistan Air Force cadets from Asghar Khan Academy took over the ceremonial guard duty at the Quaid’s mausoleum with traditional spirit and usual enthusiasm on the occasion of Defence Day celebrations on Wednesday.

Earlier a contingent of the Pakistan Navy guarded the Quaid’s resting place. A floral wreath was laid by the chief guest Air Vice Marshal Ghazanfar Latif on behalf of the Air Chief, officers and men of the Pakistan Air Force.

Later, the chief guest offered Fateha and entered his remarks in the guest book and paid rich tribute to the Quaid.

The day is celebrated as a tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis who defended the motherland against the Indian aggression.

It was on this day in 1965 that Indian forces crossed the international border in the dark of night to attack Pakistan, but valiant armed forces supported by the entire nation foiled the nefarious plans of the enemy.

The day came with a 31-gun salute at the federal capital and a 21-gun salute at the provincial capitals.
