BEIJING: The Second International Summit on Meteorology and Economy, one of the ten Summit Forums within the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), has highlighted the increasing importance of international collaboration in light of the rising number of extreme weather and climate events worldwide.
Prof. Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), emphasized this need during the summit’s launch in Beijing on September 2.
During the event, the National Climate Center unveiled a report titled “Climate Status under Belt and Road Initiative.” This report aims to foster mutual understanding among “Belt and Road” countries and facilitate Chinese enterprises’ global expansion, as reported by China Economic Net (CEN).
Qu Ya, Secretary-General of the China Meteorological Service Association, said that climate change recognizes no boundaries between nations. As extreme weather events become more frequent, she underlined the shared responsibility of the international community in addressing these challenges and fostering global economic recovery. Qu Ya emphasized the report’s importance in advancing eco-friendly development among “Belt and Road” countries, contributing to the creation of a sustainable, low-carbon future for the entire planet.
Climate Change and Green Energy Solutions
The report provides essential information to help countries and regions in the “Belt and Road” area address economic development, livelihood improvement, poverty reduction, and climate change resilience.
Experts at the event shared their insights on climate change and new energy, reaching a consensus on the increasing focus of the international community on disaster prevention, climate change response, and meteorological economic development. China, in particular, highlighted its efforts to adjust its industrial and energy structures, promote renewable energy, and advance its green and low-carbon economic transformation to combat global climate change.
