Breast Reimplantation Surgery of Cancer Patient Successfully Carried Out
LAHORE: A woman named Zahida, whose breast was amputated due to breast cancer, was successfully reimplanted at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi.
According to hospital records, 48-year-old Zahida Khatun is the first woman who was treated in the plastic surgery department of Jinnah Hospital. Talking to a news channel, Zahida Khatun said that she has gone through all cancer treatment stages and is now happy after the successful surgery. Giving a message to women with breast cancer, she said that women who lock themselves in the room due to fear and young women under mental stress due to breast amputation should get treatment as soon as possible.
Successful Surgery
Dr Ghulam Shabbir, head of the plastic surgery department of Jinnah Hospital, and his team performed successful surgery on the woman. Talking to the media, Dr Ghulam Shabbir said that, unfortunately, in Pakistan, there is a trend of amputating the breasts of women with breast cancer, but reimplantation is negligible. He said that plastic surgery is possible in stage two and stage three. Tissues are cut from other parts and implanted into the patient’s body.
Dr Ghulam Shabbir said there is a lack of plastic surgeons and plastic surgery facilities in Pakistan. He added that the operation is expensive and long too. In the private hospital, the minimum cost is more than 15 lacs, but at Jinnah Hospital, this facility is free.
