NEW YORK: The United States (US) on Friday alleged Russia and China of blocking a unified UNSC response to N Korea’s missile launches, including a spy satellite in space, Western media reported.
During an emergency UNSC meeting, 13 of the 15 members denounced N Korea’s 2nd spy satellite test in 3-month, which utilized ballistic missile technology.

US envoy to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, “This should be a matter that unifies us. … But since 2022, the UNSC has failed to live up to its promises due to Russia and China’s hindrance,”.
She claimed, “The DPRK’s nuclear threat is increasing, and China and Russia are not living up to their obligation to maintain world peace and security,”.
She also condemned the presence of Chinese and Russian officials at a North Korean army parade last month.
In 2022, Russia and China vetoed a resolution imposing fresh sanctions on N Korea, and no resolution by the UN Security Council on N Korea has been approved since.
However, Russian and Chinese envoys said the US was to accuse for N Korea’s aggressive position, pointing to the current US military exercise with S Korea.
N Korean envoy Kim Song said that their launch of satellite is an exercise of the valid right to self-defense to prevent ever-increasing hostile military actions of the US.
