JEDDAH: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has turned its attention to the pressing human rights issues prevailing in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir region (IIOJK).

Through a significant event and a compelling photo exhibition hosted by the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, the organization highlighted the severe human rights violations that continue to afflict the IIJOK region.

Ambassador Samir Bakr, the Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs, eloquently delivered the message of Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the OIC, expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have borne the brunt of these violations under the Indian’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

The Secretary-General recalled a crucial moment during the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, which took place in March of this year in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania. During this session, the Council unequivocally urged India to reverse all illegal and unilateral measures enacted on or after August 5, 2019.

Furthermore, the Council appealed to India to put an end to the disturbing pattern of gross, systematic, and widespread human rights abuses seen in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Taha emphasized on meaningful engagement and dialogue among all concerned parties, in addition to the active participation of the international community. These are seen as essential steps in navigating toward a peaceful resolution of the longstanding Jammu & Kashmir dispute.
