8 Killed, 16 Injured as Passenger Bus Catches Fire After Firing in Gilgit-Baltistan

CHILAS: At least eight people were killed, and 16 others sustained injuries when unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire on a passenger bus traveling on the Karakoram Highway in the Hudur Pari area of Chilas in the Diamer Division of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The victims include women and children, with the injured immediately transported to the Regional Headquarters Hospital in Chilas.

The bus, en route from Ghazar district to Rawalpindi, fell prey to the gunfire near Hudur. Among the deceased are identified individuals such as Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Naseer, Kamal Abbas, Aurangzeb, and Mir Alam. However, three individuals remain unidentified.

The injured were named as Shakur Jan, Mazhar, Shabir, Noor Begum, Taj Begum, Islam Gul, Maaz Khan, Safar Ali, Muhammad Ali, Rahmat Jan, Shakeel Ahmed, Nazir, Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Altaf, Muzamil Ali, and Fida Karim.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants used heavy weapons, triggering a fire on the bus.

SP Diamer Muhammad Ayaz confirmed the incident to WE News, stating that preliminary investigations are underway, and further details will be shared with the media once available.
