AL-MUKALLA: Yemen’s internationally recognized Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) has warned the Houthis against driving Yemen into a war with global powers over their Red Sea strikes, Arab media reported on Thursday.

The PLC in a meeting said that the Houthis are trying to start a war with international powers by intensifying their attacks on ships in the Red Sea. It warned that any new conflict would worsen Yemen’s humanitarian situation. The council accused the Houthis of attempting to embroil the country in another war by exploiting Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.

The council as saying held the Houthi accountable for the implications and terrible consequences of their terrorist assaults on commercial vessels, as well as for converting territorial waters into a stage for a global conflict.

PLC urges Global community to help Yemeni government

The PLC urged the international community to help the Yemeni government in its efforts to evict the Houthis.

Earlier the UN, the UK, Canada, and other countries had warned the Houthis to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea or face consequences.

The Houthis have seized a commercial ship and fired missiles and drones at commercial and naval ships in the Red Sea, while they also threatened to close the crucial trade corridor to all Israel-bound and Israeli-operated vessels.

The Houthis claim that the attacks were carried out pressurize Israel to lift its blockade of Gaza Strip.

The US has sent an aircraft carrier, to the region and earlier announced a coalition of nations to protect movement in the Red Sea, through which around 12 percent of international trade passes.
