DUBAI: Yara Shahidi stole the show at the world premiere of Disney+’s “Peter Pan & Wendy” in London, donning a stunning Alexander McQueen cutout gown that featured a shimmering fringed hem.
The actress, who plays Tinker Bell alongside Jude Law’s Captain Hook in the live-action reimagining of the classic fairytale, expressed excitement about the film’s updated representation of characters and nuanced storyline.
In a press release from Disney, Shahidi said, “The script is more reflective of current values in regard to having this strong female protagonist and accurate Indigenous representation.”
The part-Middle Eastern actress also revealed that she and director David Lowery had a text thread discussing Tinker Bell’s look, hairstyle, and movements. Shahidi said, “Tinker Bell is now more of an integral part of the storyline… It is now clear that she is more than only Peter Pan’s sidekick.”
“Peter Pan & Wendy” will exclusively stream on Disney+ in the Middle East starting April 28. The film also stars Jacobi Jupe, Jim Gaffigan, Molly Parker, and Alyssa Wapanatahk.
Yara Shahidi shares about end of “Grown-ish
In addition to her upcoming film, Shahidi recently shared on Instagram about the end of “Grown-ish,” the popular spin-off to the ABC comedy series “Black-ish.”
The actress posted a tribute to the show and its crew, saying, “Cheers to six beautiful years of ‘Grownish.’ I would not get too sappy now (because we still have an entire season left) but it really took a village of super talented people to build Cal U and make it what it is! Let’s go out with a bang.”
