ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Following an increase in the general sales tax by the federal government, Yamaha Motor, one of the players in the two-wheeler segment in Pakistan, announced the hike in the prices of its motorcycles.
This is the second time the company has increased costs of motorcycles since the start of 2023, as the two-wheel maker increased motorcycle prices by up to Rs3,500.

In the Finance Supplementary Bill 2023, which was approved by the National Assembly a day earlier, the general sales tax rate had been increased to from 17 per cent to 18 per cent. Following the GST increase, several industries and sectors increased the prices of goods and services.
Amid the ongoing economic issues, Pakistan’s automobile sector has been hit hard due to problems with the opening of letters of credit due to the rapidly depleting foreign exchange reserves and the weakening rupee.
