PARIS: Leaders in Europe and other parts of the world sent congratulations to UK’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their coronation on Saturday, while Beijing called for “cooperation” and “peace”.
Chinese President Xi Jinping asked the UK to work for “a stable and mutually beneficial… relations” with Beijing after recent strains in their ties.
“Beijing and London, both permanent members of the UNSC should take a long-term and strategic view to jointly promote the historical trend of development, peace, and win-win cooperation,” the Chinese President said.
World Leaders Congratulate King Charles
The European Commission chief, Ursula von der Leyen, termed the coronation as “a testament to the enduring strength of the UK monarchy. She tweeted beside a photo of herself at the pageant-filled ceremony at Westminster Abbey, ‘A symbol of stability,”.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised the newly crowned King’s interest in tackling challenge of climate change.
French President Emmanuel Macron attended the London ceremony, and sent his “congratulations” to King Charles and Queen Camilla, calling them “friends of France”.
