ISLAMABAD: Founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that WhatsApp is finally allowing users to log into the messaging app from multiple phones.

In a statement on Facebook, Zuckerberg announced: “Starting today, you can log into the same WhatsApp account on up to four phones.”

To date, WhatsApp users have only been able to use one WhatsApp account on one phone — a setting that users have always complained about. However, currently, users can connect WhatsApp on Android tablets, companion phones, web, and other devices by linking up to 4 devices to their primary phone at a time.

WhatsApp’s new feature

According to WhatsApp, the new feature will allow users’ messages to be synced across devices, including other phones, and will be rolled out to all users within a few weeks. Therefore, users can access the app on other devices if one device is switched off.

With over 2 billion users, WhatsApp is one of the biggest messaging services. WhatsApp competitors like Messenger and Telegram already offer multi-device sync for messages; but, but they don’t have support for end-to-end encryption.
