NEW YORK: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has announced the upcoming release of a screen-sharing feature for video calls, as reported by WaBetaInfo. The feature is currently available to select beta testers and is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience in the coming weeks.

According to the app-tracking website, WhatsApp submitted the new update through the TestFlight beta Program, which brings the version up to 23.12.0.74.

The screen-sharing feature will enable users to share their screens with participants during video calls. This functionality will facilitate collaboration, demonstrations, and troubleshooting of various tasks or issues remotely. Users with access to this feature will notice a new icon at the bottom of their video call interface. By selecting this icon, they can share the contents of their screens with everyone on the call.

Benefits of WhatsApp Screen Sharing Feature

During screen sharing, others on the call will be able to view the shared screen, including notifications. The shared content will be recorded and made available to participants on the video call. To avoid unexpected notifications, it is recommended to enable the “Do Not Disturb” mode or a preferred focus mode while using this feature, according to the WhatsApp watcher.

Users will have full control over the screen-sharing feature, allowing them to stop sharing their screens at any time. Additionally, permission will be required from users before their screen can be shared with others.

The screen-sharing feature will initially be available to users who install the latest beta version on iOS. It is expected to enhance communication and collaboration among WhatsApp users during video calls, offering a seamless way to demonstrate and troubleshoot tasks remotely.

WhatsApp continues to introduce new features to enhance its user experience and stay competitive in the messaging app market. The screen-sharing feature aligns with the growing demand for remote collaboration tools and is expected to be well-received by WhatsApp users worldwide.
