London, United Kingdom: Crowds surged around Oxford Circus station as last-minute Christmas shoppers descended on central London, snapping up gifts amid packed streets and festive lights, with many saying the focus was firmly on buying for family and friends rather than themselves. “This road specifically is the best place to do shopping – you have every type of shop here, all different types of presents for the whole family,” said Chaya Gantz, 19, who lives in London, adding: “It’s so busy here today — everyone’s doing their last-minute shopping.” She said the season was about generosity, noting: “It’s family, it’s not buying for yourself, it’s buying for others… It’s much nicer giving to other people.”
