MEXICO CITY: Mexican security forces arrested Ovidio Guzmán, an alleged drug trafficker in a pre-dawn operation Thursday that set off firefights and roadblocks in the western state’s capital.
Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval said that National Guard and Army personnel had arrested a son of “El Chapo” and identified as Ovidio. The recent high-profile arrest comes just days before President López Obrador will host the U.S. President for bilateral talks followed by their North American Leaders’ Summit with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. Reports said that drug trafficking, along with immigration, is likely to be a top talking point during the summit.

In July, Mexico also captured Rafael Caro Quintero and the person allegedly responsible for the murder of a DEA agent more than thirty years ago, just days following López Obrador held a meeting with Biden at the White House.
At the time, the arrest was seen as an indication that Mexico could be willing to go after high-profile cartel bosses again.
