Uzbekistan Scores High in Gallup Well-being Index, Demonstrates Confidence in Governance

ISLAMABAD: A recent analysis by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) reveals that Uzbekistan stands out with an impressive 92% confidence in its government in 2022, showcasing one of the highest scores among regional countries where the average stands at 68%.

The Gallup World Poll, conducted annually across 160 countries, emphasizes key indices such as law and order, food and accommodation, institutes and infrastructure, good jobs, and overall well-being. Uzbekistan, when compared to post-Soviet Eurasian nations, reported a Well-being Index of 6.0 points in 2022 (on a scale of 0 to 10), surpassing the regional average of 5.7 points.

In specific well-being indicators, Uzbekistan boasts a stellar performance with 39% of respondents indicating an increase in their well-being, outpacing the regional average of 30%. The Cantril-ladder scale, measuring life satisfaction, reveals that only 2% of Uzbek people reported facing difficulties, a notable 6% below the regional average.

Gallup estimates underscore Uzbekistan’s rapid recovery from the pandemic, with respondents expressing optimism by rating their future well-being at 8.7 points over the next 5 years—leading the region as the highest scorer, while the regional average stood at 7.4.

Indicators of Well being

Furthermore, Uzbekistan demonstrates robust economic confidence, as 86% believe that the standard of living is on the rise, surpassing the regional average of 40%. Satisfaction with current financial situations reaches 80%, compared to the regional average of 60%, and 44% of Uzbeks affirm living well with their existing incomes, outshining the regional average of 33%.

In the realm of employment, Uzbekistan takes the lead with 34% of workers expressing job satisfaction, the highest in the region where the average is 27%. A notable improvement is seen in the perception of job availability, with 63% believing it is currently the best time to find a job, up by 17% over two years.

The Gallup analysis highlights a significant increase in Uzbek people’s confidence in the country’s economy, rising by 7% to reach 82%, a notable contrast to the regional average of 51%.

Moreover, institutions and infrastructure witness strong confidence, with 92% expressing trust in the government, a commendable result compared to the regional average of 68%. Additionally, 74% of respondents exhibit confidence in Uzbekistan’s judicial systems, marking a 10% increase in two years, while the regional average stands at about 45%.

Indicators of good jobs

Uzbekistan demonstrates robust faith in its financial sector, with 82% expressing “quite high” confidence in the banking and financial system, whereas the regional average is 55%. The nation also excels in attention to children and youth, with 94% noting “great” emphasis, surpassing the regional average of 76%.

The survey findings underscore the positive trajectory of Uzbekistan’s well-being, economic confidence, and governance, positioning the country as a standout performer in the region.
