TASHKENT: The president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has pledged to provide more gas, better public transport, greater protections for property rights, and scores of other facilities to the people of the republic. The president said this in his detailed address to the parliament and people of Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

In his address, the president tried to deliver a positive message to his people amid his country enduring a particularly worrying winter of power outages and fuel deficiencies and looks poised to record economic growth below expectations.

He also pledged to streamline the civil service while adding that the number of ministries and government agencies will be halved in 2023 from 61 to 28.

He added that if his ministers do not have clear calculated approaches in their field and their activities do not add to the problems of the people, then they will have to go.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev vowed that all efforts would be commenced to fully exploit the country’s gas reserves as fuel demand continues to increase in the coming years. The solution for the issue is to dig deeper.

The president also raised questions on the old system of real estate and added that in the future, an investigator would not be able to grasp property under the pretext of classifying it as evidence of a crime adding that it is unfair that businesses could under the prevailing system be put out of commission without cause for up to six months while investigators do their work.

Commenting on improving public transport, the president said that thousands of new buses would be purchased along with opening seven new metro stations in the capital to improve mobility for about 1 million people covering around 300 communities.
