WASHINGTON: The US State Department said on Thursday that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel next week to the West Bank, Israel, and Egypt to urge an end to violence after a deadly Israeli attack in the west bank.

The US Secretary of State will hold his first in-person discussion with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since he returned to power leading Israel’s most radical and right-wing government in history.

Antony Blinken will also meet in Ramallah with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas during his visit to the region. He “will highlight the urgent need for the parties to take measures to reduce tensions to put an end to the violence that has claimed too many precious and innocent lives,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price said.

The US Secretary of State will first on Sunday visit Cairo, a key mediator between the Israelis and Palestinians which has succeeded in maintaining good terms with President Joe Biden.
The State Department said that Blinken will exchange views on regional issues including Sudan, Libya and meet Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Officials said that nine Palestinians were killed on Thursday in an Israeli raid on the refugee camp in the West Bank city of Jenin.
