US Police Search for Motive Behind California Shooting

MONTEREY PARK: Police in California searched Monday for what compelled a seventy-two-year-old man of Asian descent to shoot dead ten people as they celebrated Lunar New Year in the Los Angeles suburbs.

The suspect identified as Huu Can Tran had been a regular member of the Star Dance Studio in the past, where he killed innocent people. According to US media, he reportedly believed that other instructors in the studio said evil things about him.

It was unclear how frequently he visited the hall in recent years.

Tran is believed to have arrived in the hall around  10: 20 at night on Saturday and opened fire inside, killing ten people, 5 men and 5 women. All the deceased were in their 50s and 60s. he also wounded ten more.

Then the suspect apparently drove to another dance hall in Alhambra, where authorities said he tried to carry out a second massacre. But he was stopped by a twenty-six-year-old employee who snatched the gun from him.

After the incident, he fled and shot himself inside a van in Torrance, on Sunday afternoon as police moved to catch him. Police termed the shooting incident a mystery.

What US media reports

CNN reported that he had met his ex-wife about twenty years ago at the studio in Monterey Park which a majority Asian American city. Their marriage could not last long and the pair divorced in 2006.

He was a Chinese immigrant.
