ISLAMABAD: US-based TIME magazine has included Pakistan’s climate activist Ayisha Siddiqa to its list of 2023 Women of the Year, alongside 11 other inspiring females, including actors Angela Bassett and Cate Blanchett.
The magazine’s website said that the list includes extraordinary leaders who have been making efforts toward a more equal world and making a better future for females by building bonds “across generations, communities, and borders,”.

Ayisha Siddiqa told TIME that they, collectively, have come to a point where “we are ignoring the cries of earth.” She highlighted last year’s floods in Pakistan, adding “In South Asia, climate change excessively affects women. She added that they need to think more energetically about the solutions to address the challenge of climate change.
Ayisha Siddiqa has been making the world think in a unique way regarding climate action by channeling her spirits into poetry as a form of protest. According to the magazine when the Pakistani climate activist talks about poetry, her face lights up. Ayisha Siddiqa’s poetry represents hope — a way to bring humanity back into serious and high-level conversations.

At UN Climate Conference Egypt, she shared an original poem, titled “so much about your sustainability, my people are dying,” as a censure to global leaders for their failure to address issue of climate change.
The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP27) was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in last November. The US weekly magazine is going to host its 2nd annual Women of the Year Gala on International Women’s Day, on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
24-year Ayisha Siddiqa became a climate and human rights activist following being a personal victim of climate change. Somali boxer Ramla Ali, US singer Phoebe Bridgers, Ukrainian human rights activist Olena Shevchenko, US player Megan Rapinoe among others also included in the list for their inspiring journeys.
